ArcSoft Total Media Backup - Restore Guide

ArcSoft Restore Instructions

The ArcSoft Total Media Backup software has several methods and options for restoring data that has been backed up using the program. This document will explain the steps involved to restore data from the archive you have created using ArcSoft Total Media Backup. CD/DVD options detailed below do not apply to the Mac version of Total Media Backup.

There are two ways to begin the restore process. The first is to use the UQuickRestore.exe file that is included with the archive in your backup folder The other is to access the Restore option inside of the Total Media Backup software.

  1. Using the UQuickRestore.exe File
The UQuickRestore file is for use on computers where you do not have the Total Media Backup software installed. This file allows you to restore data to a computer without running the full install of Total Media Backup.

When a backup is processed using Total Media Backup a folder is created with the name of that backup. The default name is the date the backup was created.

Inside this folder will be the backup archive files and the UQuickRestore.exe file. Double clicking on this file will launch the ArcSoft Restore Utility. Instructions beyond this point will be covered in section 3 of this document.

A Backup written to a CD/DVD will contain UQuickRestore.exe as well. However, inserting the first disc of the backup will auto run this file and you will not need to launch it manually.

  2. Using the Restore Option Inside Total Media Backup
The Restore option can be found on the Main Menu of the Total Media Backup software. Double click on the Total Media Backup icon on your desktop to start the program and you will see a list of options. The second option is Restore. Hover over Restore and options for Restore From CD/DVD and Restore From Hard Drive will appear. If the backup was written to a CD or DVD, select the CD/DVD option and you will be prompted to insert the first disc and click OK. Instructions for CD/DVD restore continue in section 3. If the backup was written to a hard drive, select the Hard Drive option.

The Restore From Hard Drive screen will open. In the Select a Backup box you will see a list of Backups performed. If you do not see the backup that you would like to restore, click Browse Backups… below the Select a Backup box. This will open a screen where you can browse to the folder containing your backup.

Browse to the folder where your backup is stored and select the NBP file associated with that backup. Selecting that file will add it to the list in the Select a Backup box. Click on the backup in the Select a Backup box that you would like to restore and select Open at the bottom of the screen. Instructions beyond this point will be covered in section 3 of this document.

  3. Restoring Your Data
Having followed the steps in section 1 or 2 above you should now have a Window labeled ArcSoft Restore Utility on your screen. This Window will have details about the backup that you are restoring, such as number of files, date of backup, full or incremental, etc.

Click next to continue. The next window will offer two Restore Methods. Easy Restore or Advanced Restore. Only Advanced Restore will be active if you did an Advanced Backup. Selecting Easy Restore will allow you to do a restore of all files of a specified type, such as Photos, Music, etc. Advanced Restore will allow you to browse the backup and pick specific files or folders to restore. Select the type of restore you want and click next to continue.

    • Easy Restore
Easy Restore will give you a box of file types. By default all types are checked. Uncheck any that you do not want included in the restore and select next to continue.
    • Advanced Restore
Advanced Restore will give you a box similar to Windows Explorer. Select the files and folders you want to restore by checking the empty box next to its name. When you have selected all the files and folders to be restored, click next to continue.

The next screen will allow you to select where your files will be restored. The options are to restore to original location or a selected location. If you are restoring to the computer where the backup was performed and you have not formatted your hard drive or reinstalled Windows prior to doing the restore, original location is the best choice. If this is a different computer or Windows was reinstalled, then picking a specific location is the best solution. The original locations may not exist and it can make the restored files difficult to locate. Selecting Specific Location, the box beneath will become active to select where the files will be restored. It is best to select a folder on your desktop so that the files will be easy to locate. Files restored to a Specified location will retain their folder structure. Select the restore destination and click restore to complete the process. If any files being restored already exist you will be prompted if they should be overwritten by the file in the backup. When the process completes the Restore Report will appear. This will include information about the restore. If any files were ignored or failed to restore, you will have options to view these files. Clicking OK will return to the ArcSoft Restore Utility. Click finish to complete the process and return to the Main Menu of Total Media Backup.
